Allen & Heath XONE-S6 Rotary Mixer
Xone:S6 is an echo of the earliest days of pro audio, when idealistic individuals created outstanding products free from cost or time constraints. Such creations were never cheap. Nor did they sell in their thousands. But they did become landmark design classics.
The Xone:S6, a sister product to the valve rotary Xone:V6 mixer, made its debut at the show. Offering an almost identical feature set and fitted with the same quality components, the S6 is an accessible alternative to the top of the range V6.
Adopted by the leading clubs Fabric and Ministry of Sound, and the top DJ/producers Louie Vega, Sasha, Eric Morillo and Sander Kleinenberg, the Xone:V6 has been upgraded to include valve preamps on all six channels without increasing the retail price.
Built to exactly the same high standard as the V6, the S6 retains the V6’s key features, including 6 dual stereo channels with high pass filters and insert points on every channel, accurate signal level metering, “intelligent” cue system, oil-damped precision Penny & Giles rotary faders, custom molded retro-style LED meters, and class-A configuration circuitry.
Although similar in appearance, the S6 can be distinguished by the extra green meter LEDs instead of the blue LEDs on the V6. The S6 does not share the valve preamps or auto voltage sensing power system of the V6, and offers three phono pre-amps instead of four.
Allen & Heath has also unveiled a unique DJ control concept, which will be launched later in the year. The Xone:3D allows the user to manipulate and manage any source–such as mp3, CD, video and vinyl–from a central interface. It is an amalgamation of a fully featured high performance DJ mixer, a top spec multi-channel USB soundcard, and a comprehensive control surface with MIDI and PC connectivity. This versatile product has 14 stereo inputs and 10 stereo outputs, and can simultaneously mix up to 11 stereo signals.
Our mission for Xone:S6 was simply to build the highest quality club mixer ever. We painstakingly refined our signal paths to optimise audio transparency. Hundreds of the best quality components were evaluated and of these only the very finest were approved for the project. The result is a mixer that gives great recordings the space and freedom to express their full warmth and clarity.
