Audio Innovate AEM-100I DJ Mixer with Oscillator
So here it is – the new scratch mixer on the block, the revised AEM100i. Complete with cosmetic makeover, ditching of some less than popular features and improving the existing ones a little, the AEM-100i aims to have a broader appeal without sacrificing the analogue synth effects that set it apart from the saturated scratch mixer market.
The first thing youll notice is the color coding. With all of the various sections its helpful to be able to look at the mixer and figure out what section does what. So what happened to the Fader Cuts? Many of you thought it was too much and got in the way of scratching. Getting rid of the Fader Cuts also helped put back the upfader curves and reverse switches. A good mixer should feel as good as it sounds and functions. So the knobs were replaced with color coded rubber knobs. If you get a chance to work with the mixer, youll notice that having these knobs makes it easier to operate the mixer, especially in the effects section.
Based on the original AEM-100, the AEM-100i includes the same great features that pushed the AEM-100 into a class of its own. With over 50 knobs buttons and faders all designed to complement your existing turntables, CD players, and media players, this two-channel analog dj mixer is in a class all to itself. Start with the basics of two sets of meters for PFL and AFL levels, a three-band graphic eq section with bass, midrange and treble sliders for each channel, and a flexible headphone monitoring system to provide the user with many choices on what and how to listen to their cue. When looking at the back panel it becomes clear that no stone was left unturned. You are given three stereo RCA terminals for each channel to allow you to connect a variety of components. The first RCA stereo input is switchable between Phonograph and Line. The second stereo RCA input is for line level signals. The third stereo set of RCA inputs is for aux. It’s great to have the 1/8? aux inputs on the front but since it’s such a new concept what if you don?t have a 1/8? to 1/8? cord to utilize it? Well if you just brought your RCA to 1/8? adapter for your I-pod then you can use the back panel connections instead. Or what if you want to take your scratch mixer on the road and hook up a spare CD or DVD player? You can even hook up both the front and back AUX inputs at the same time, for a total of up to 8 program audio sources.
To make sure we are pushing the bar forward we went ahead and decided to get right down to business with the master outputs. The master outputs on the AEM-100i are XLR balanced outputs. DJs are professionals and they deserve professional grade connections and audio quality for main outputs. In addition to the XLR out, three RCA stereo outs are provided as well. The three stereo RCA outs found on the AEM-100i are as follows, Master, Booth, and Recording outputs. In addition to audio outputs, two 1/8? fader start outputs are included to allow your digital decks to be controlled by the AEM-100i.
