Extron Fox 500 DVI Fiber Optic Transmitter for DVI with Audio and RS-232
Extron Fox 500 DVI Fiber Optic Transmitter for DVI with Audio and RS-232
The Extron FOX 500 DVI Tx Fiber Optic Transmitter provides long haul transmission of DVI, audio, and RS-232 control signals over a single fiber. Engineered for reliability and exceptional high resolution image performance, it uses the Extron all-digital technology to deliver perfect pixel-for-pixel transmission of computer-video images up to UXGA 1600×1200 resolution, including HDTV 1080p/60. Designed specifically for AV systems, the transmitter includes many integrator-friendly features such as an EDID emulation mode, buffered input loop-through, RS-232 control, and real-time system monitoring.
The FOX 500 DVI Tx is part of the extensive FOX Series of fiber optic products from Extron and is compatible with FOX Series HDMI, DVI Plus, DVI, and VGA receivers. It can be used for simple point-to-point applications or in combination with FOX Series distribution amplifiers and matrix switchers to handle the most challenging AV system designs, from a simple conference room to an enterprise-wide fiber optic distribution system.
The transmitter is ideal for a wide range of applications requiring long distance transmission of high resolution content with the highest quality. Because transmission of content is inherently secure and immune to outside interference, fiber applications are favored in government, military, and medical environments. The FOXÂ 500Â DVIÂ Tx features industry standard LC-type connectivity.
The FOX 500 DVI Tx is available in two versions, multimode and singlemode. The FOX 500 DVI Tx MM supports multimode fiber at 850 nm, which is typically used within buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances. The FOX 500 DVI Tx SM supports singlemode as well as multimode fiber at 1310 nm. Singlemode fiber offers long-range transmission capability over extreme distances of up to 30 km (18.75 miles). It is used in very large facilities such as airports and stadiums, and for connecting over very long distances between facilities such as university campuses.
Offering convenient integration into AV systems, the FOX 500 DVI Tx transmitter accepts and digitizes unbalanced or balanced stereo audio and RS-232 control signals for transmission along with the DVI-D signals. It also includes a buffered input loop-through for viewing DVI video on a local monitor. EDID emulation ensures proper communication with the DVI source when no local monitor is present.
The FOX 500 DVI Tx and its corresponding receiver can be controlled and configured using the RS-232 port on the transmitter. With a second fiber link installed, functions for both units can be controlled at either location. Since the units are typically situated far apart, this capability adds considerable versatility, enabling adjustment and calibration of audio at the receiver. It also allows for verification of fiber link status between the units as well as the presence of DVI-D and audio input signals at the transmitter.
DVI-to-Analog RGB Conversion
The FOXÂ 500Â DVIÂ Tx is ideal for AV systems that include a variety of digital and analog sources and displays. Pairing the transmitter with a FOXÂ Series VGA receiver provides easy conversion of DVI-D signals to analog RGB.
Features
- Transmits single link DVI-D, stereo audio, and RS-232 control signals very long distances over a single fiber
- Inputs: DVI-I connector with buffered input loop-through, unbalanced stereo audio on 3.5Â mm stereo mini jack, and balanced/unbalanced stereo audio on captive screw connector
- All-digital technology provides pixel-for-pixel performance with signals up to 1600×1200, including HDTV 1080p/60 — The FOX 500 DVI Tx delivers pixel-for-pixel transmission of video signals to ensure optimal image quality at resolutions up to UXGA (1600×1200). Signal resolutions higher than UXGA can be accommodated, but will not be sampled at a 1:1 pixel ratio.
- EDID Emulation provides selectable resolutions and refresh rates to ensure reliable operation — The transmitter provides a means for specifying the rate of the incoming signal, ensuring proper communication with the video source.
- Buffered DVI input loop-through — A buffered DVI input loop-through on the FOX 500 DVI Tx transmitter provides an output signal to drive a local monitor.
- Available as an 850Â nm multimode model for moderate-range transmissions up to 2Â km (1.25Â miles) and a 1310Â nm singlemode model for extreme distances up to 30Â km (18.75Â miles)
- Second fiber link enables bidirectional RS-232 pass-through, control from either location, and real-time system monitoring
- Industry standard LC connectors provide reliable physical connectivity and precise fiber core alignment
- Real-time status LED indicators for troubleshooting and monitoring — LEDs on the front panel verify the presence of DVI and audio signals at the transmitter as well as active fiber links between the units. Requires a second fiber link.
- Alarm notification for fiber link loss — The FOX 500 DVI Tx can be set up to trigger an external control system for immediate notification when a fiber link has been lost. Requires a second fiber link.
- Audio gain and attenuation adjustment capability
- RS-232 control — The FOX 500 DVI transmitter features front and rear panel RS-232 serial ports for control and configuration.
- Compatible with Extron FOXÂ Matrix Switchers for signal distribution systems up to 1000×1000 and larger
- Compatible with Extron FOXÂ Series distribution amplifiers
- Compatible with Extron FOXÂ Series HDMI, DVIÂ Plus, DVI, and VGA receivers
- Rack-mountable 1U, half rack width metal enclosure
